HCL Technologies Infrastructure Services Division (HCLT ISD), a leading global IT services provider and a subsidiary of HCL Technologies Ltd, has been conferred with the prestigious "Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation" award for its Green Datacenter Service offering in the IT Sector category.
The award was presented to HCLT ISD at a special function during the Global Convention on Climate Change. The forum was attended by many eminent personalities from across the world, including Dr Ola Ulsten, former Prime Minister of Sweden and chairman, World Commission on Forests, Dr Madhav Mehra, president of World Environment Foundation and Dr Jurgen Bischoff, Director, GTZ, Germany.
HCLT ISD's Green Datacenter offering was chosen amongst more than 100 corporate entries through a stringent selection process. The applications were assessed based on an exhaustive set of parameters and the applicant scoring the highest amongst each of the respective industrial categories were recommended to a three tiered jury chaired by Justice PN Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India.
Golden Peacock Awards was instituted by the Institute of Directors (IoD) in 1991 and are given away annually. Considered the holy grail of corporate excellence, the awards are one of the most prestigious citations in the Indian industry.
Swapan Johri, Sr. VP-Transformation Services, HCLT ISD, said on the occasion, "Winning this prestigious citation is a matter of great pride for us. A growing number of CIOs are realizing that environmental preservation and business success can go hand-in-hand, and that a green, environment-friendly Datacenter may actually be one of the best ways to both accommodate growth and make a positive impact on their business's bottom-line. At a macro level we at HCL help the enterprise arrest the rising Green House Gas (GHG) emissions through a three pronged strategy: making datacenters green, making green workplaces, and investing in green processes. This we believe eventually drives business driven green policies."
"The Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award is testimony to the value and merit of our Green Datacenter offering, which was launched last year at the Computerworld Green IT Forum. We are committed to creating more such winning propositions, which have a quick impact cycle and a definite differentiated value," he added.
"We congratulate HCL on winning this year's Eco-Innovation award in the IT category and commend the company for its suite of Green IT Services, which are delivered with extremely high quality standards, stringent processes and clear quantifiable environmental benefits," said Manoj K Raut, Director, Institute of Directors.
HCLT ISD unveiled its Green Datacenter Services early last year to help enterprise IT arrest GHG emission from Datacenters. As part of this proposition, HCL proposes a three-pronged solution built around asset optimization, facility optimization and management efficiencies, which helps enterprises double their IT energy efficiency.
HCL Technologies is a member of the US Green Building Council and Indian Green Building Council. The company is also the first in India to have a comprehensive environment management program and to be ISO14001 compliant with a comprehensive policy on Waste of Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
HCLT, in alliance with Tata Energy Research Institute (an active member of India Council for Sustainable Development), a non-government organization, is working towards the ultimate "Green Goal" of Government of India by participating in various sustainable development projects at various levels. Forrester in its April 2008 market overview report on Green IT Services highlighted HCLT ISD as a promising and upcoming service provider in this area. AMR in a report titled "The Green Transformation on Indian Outsourcing, heading for the clouds but doing that on a low cost and carbon budget" - March 2009 - cited HCL as a "Leader in Developing Green Agenda" - HCLT ISD pioneered the concept of Remote Infrastructure Management (RIM) with a co-sourcing engagement model, which has added substantial value to customers, including 90+ Fortune/Global 1000 enterprises.
The company was cited as a leader in Global IT Infrastructure Outsourcing in an independent vendor evaluation study by Forrester WaveTM, Q1, 2009 and No.1 "Specialty Offshore Infrastructure Services Provider" by NeoIT and Managing Offshore magazine.
The company currently manages more than 800,000 mission critical devices systems and supports 500,000 business users. HCLT ISD has also been ranked as the World No.1 Best Performing IT Infrastructure Services by Global Services 100 Survey 2008.
