Mumbai: HCL Infosystems has bagged a prestigious contract aimed at putting on the fast track the development efforts in the tribal districts of Gujarat. The contract, awarded by the Gujarat government, is worth over Rs.110 crore. HCL Infosystems will collaborate with the Tribal and Education Department of Gujarat to facilitate capturing of online attendance data for both students and teachers in schools. 

The development project to be closely monitored and overseen by the state government, will require HCL Infosystems to look at implementation under a transparent model based on Public Private Partnership (PPP). As part of the project, over 7000 schools in the state will be provided with PCs with biometric finger print scanner and UPS by HCL Infosystems. The company would implement the biometric based attendance system, offer facility management and run teacher training programs to supply and implement robust education software effectively at schools, according to a statement. 

Elaborating on the contract, Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and chief executive officer, HCL Infosystems Ltd, "the need to create a progressive environment of inclusive growth is today more than ever before. We deeply appreciate the Government's vision and commitment to take IT to the grass root levels of the state." The system will also help the government to study education patterns and dropout rates across regions. 

Over 7000 schools in the state with over 1000 schools under Tribal Department and over 6,000 schools under Education Department will be covered under the project. The implementation process would initially take place in two districts out of eight notified tribal districts, comprising of 150 schools each, the statement added.

HCL is also gearing up to deploy its specialist workforce of engineers in each school for the effective implementation of the project.
