Unveiling a new portfolio of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications for large enterprises and SMBs across the country, Dell has kicked off an initiative to provide customers with cloud-based IT services. The new Dell SaaS applications add cloud-based IT services to the existing consulting, support and managed service capabilities under Dell Services, a new organization formed by the merger of Perot Systems.

Dell's cloud-based application is currently doing pilot projects for 10 customers in India and the company hopes to bag its first customer this January. The new SaaS applications are aimed at simplifying and automating IT management and reduce overall IT costs. Sameer Garde, managing director & GM-large enterprises, said that enterprises today have set aside thin IT resources and budget towards just maintaining IT legacy. He added that, three years ago, Dell has proven that about 80% of the IT budgets can be reduced to about 60% by moving on the cloud platform.

It is expected that the SaaS applications can help businesses lower total cost of ownership of their IT infrastructure with fewer dedicated staff while reducing complexity of the operations, by introducing various remote-based and tool-based services solutions. The new Dell IT services aims at enabling enterprises to leverage SaaS to solve key issues around distributed device management, remote infrastructure monitoring and business continuity and compliance.
It already has companies like Google, Amazon, Ebay completely on the Dell cloud platform. In the Indian context, there are about 2,500 active Dell customers. Significantly, the company is not just targeting Dell users, but others as well.
Dell is offering a broad portfolio of new SaaS applications across three key IT infrastructure management areas: Client device management; Remote Infrastructure monitoring and Continuity and Compliance management.
